Cậu bé 14 tuổi Juan Heriberto Trevino bị lạc trong một dãy núi thuộc Mexico trong suốt 44 tiếng đồng hồ trước khi những nhân viên cứu hộ tìm thấy em.


May mắn là Juan không phải trải qua thử thách khắc nghiệt này một mình, bởi chú chó Max luôn ở bên cạnh em không rời. Max là chú chó giống Labrador Retriever, không phải thú cưng của gia đình Juan mà cả hai chỉ mới gặp nhau vài tiếng đồng hồ trước khi Juan bị lạc.

Juan chia sẻ trên Noticieros Televisa rằng cậu đến dãy núi này để tham gia trại hè nhưng sau đó đã bị lạc nhóm, trượt chân và rơi xuống khe núi. Cú ngã làm Juan bị thương. Ngay sau đó cậu phát hiện ra Max cũng theo mình đi xuống. Cả hai ngủ dưới một cái cây, Juan ôm chú chó để chống lại cái lạnh trên núi.


“Max đã ở bên em suốt khoảng thời gian đó, giúp em cảm thấy an toàn. Em ôm Max và đặt nó lên chân cho đỡ lạnh và ôm nó”, Juan chia sẻ và khẳng định Max đã giúp mình sống sót. Chú chó thông minh cũng tìm thấy một vũng nước, dẫn Juan đến để cả hai cùng uống.


Đội tìm kiếm Juan sau đó đã định vị được cặp đôi và dùng máy bay đưa họ đến nơi an toàn.

He said: "I slipped down the ravine, I was rolling and held on to a tree to stop my fall. I got down to a river bed, which had no water and walked straight along it looking for the valley." He was saved when a Labrador turned up alongside him and never left his side the whole time he was lost. And he explained how realising he had no idea where he was, he had ended up following the dog. Juan said: "He stayed by my side the whole time, making me feel safe. "I did not walk at night because I knew I could get more lost, so I put twigs over my legs and hugged the dog to keep warm. "We came up to a pool of water and I saw that the dog drank from it, and I was so thirsty I drank too. I prayed all the time to God that they would find me." For 40 hours the search for Juan continued. And finally in the early hours of the morning two villagers who had joined the search on their horses found him. They describe how he ran up to them with his faithful friend in tow and gave them a hug saying he thought he would never be found. The youth was taken away in the helicopter with the dog to be treated for minor injuries. The dog, later revealed to be called Max, was found to be from a local ranch. Juan wanted to adopt his saviour, although it appears that for the moment he is staying with his current owners. The boy meanwhile is now safe and sound and back with his family. (ends)
